Dr. Xiao Qin is an Associate Professor and Ph.D. Supervisor in the Department of Finance at Antai College of Economics and Management, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), where she also serves as the Director of the Financial MBA Program. She obtained her Ph.D. in Management Science and Engineering (Financial Engineering) from Beihang University in 2009 and subsequently joined SJTU as faculty. During her academic career, she has held visiting positions at several prestigious institutions, including as an Assistant Researcher at The Conference Board (TCB) China Center for Economics and Business (2006-2007), a visiting scholar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) Department of Statistics and the Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute (SAMSI) (2007-2008), the Bernoulli Center at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) (2009), the Erasmus School of Economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) (2012-2013), and the Department of Finance at the University of Cincinnati (UC) (2018).  

Dr. Qin has been recognized by several distinguished talent programs, including Shanghai's "Dawn Scholar Program," "Pujiang Talent Program," "Morning Light Program," and the "Young Elite Scholar" designation under the Shanghai Municipal Government's Decision-Making Consultation Research Base. She has received numerous academic awards, such as the International Finance and Banking Society (IFABS) "William F. Sharpe Best Paper Award," the Financial Management Association (FMA) "Best Paper Award (Nomination)," the "National Outstanding Statistical Research Achievement Award," the Shanghai "Philosophy and Social Sciences Outstanding Achievement Award," and the "Deng Xiaoping Theory Research and Dissemination Outstanding Achievement Award." Her teaching excellence has been honored with the "National Outstanding Finance Master's Teaching Case Award," SJTU's "Teaching and Education Award," the "Jiahe Outstanding Young Faculty Award," the "Candlelight Award," the "Top 10 Class Advisor," the "Most Popular Undergraduate Teacher," and the "Most Popular Undergraduate Course Team." The course "Corporate Finance," which she leads, has been recognized as a Shanghai "First-Class Undergraduate Course." Under her supervision, master's students have won national and municipal Outstanding Finance Master's Thesis awards, while undergraduate students have received SJTU's "Outstanding Bachelor's Thesis Award (Top 1%)" and "Top 10 Innovation Project Award."  

Dr. Qin holds several prominent academic and professional roles, including Secretary-General of the 5th Council of the Shanghai Financial Engineering Research Association, Delegate to the 11th Shanghai Association for Science and Technology Congress, Expert Juror at the Shanghai Financial Court, Evaluation Expert for the National Professional Degree Thesis Assessment under the Academic Degrees Committee of the Ministry of Education, Council Member of the China Corporate Finance Summer Forum, Program Committee Chair of the China International Risk Forum and etc.  

Xiao’s research interests are mainly in the areas of financial systemic risk, FinTech and extreme value statistics.

Ph.D and Postdoc supervision area: 1. Financial systemic risk; 2. FinTech, especially the application of big data and AI methods in the financial field; 3. Green finance. Students with related research interests and expertise are welcome to contact me by email.

Academic papers: She has published more than 20 papers in important journals at home and abroad, such as Economic Research, Journal of Management Science, Chinese Soft Science, Financial Research, Statistical Research, Theory and Practice of Systems Engineering, Journal of Banking and Finance, Energy Economics, Review of Income and Wealth, Pacific- Basin Finance Journal, Economic Modelling, Applied Economics, Proceedings of Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM), etc. She was awarded the "William Sharp Best Paper Award" from IFABS (2013), "Best Paper Nomination Award" from FMA (2021), "Best Paper Award" from CSCR (2022), "Excellence in Research Award" from Shanghai Risk Forum (SRF) (2015), "National Statistical Research Excellence Award" (2008), Shanghai "Deng Xiaoping Theory Research and Propaganda Excellence Award "(2012) and other academic awards at home and abroad. Besides, three of her papers have been Reprinted by Renmin University of China.

Research projects: She is the PI of four National Natural Science Foundation of China Projects, including two National Natural Science Foundation of China general projects (Grant No. 72271159, 71471115), one National Natural Science Foundation of China youth project (Grant No. 71001070) and one National Natural Science Foundation of China international cooperation and exchange Project (Grant No. 71211130310). Among them, the post-evaluation of the youth project is excellent. She is in charge of one project of Humanities and Social Science Research Planning Fund of the Ministry of Education (Grant No. 22YJA790054) and in charge of the completion of Shanghai "Pujiang Talent Program" (Grant No. 2019PJC071), Shanghai "Morning Glory Program" (Grant No. 11CG13) and "Morning Star Young Scholar Award Program" of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. As the backbone, she has participated in two major projects of the National Social Science Foundation of China, one major project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, two major international cooperation projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and one innovative research group project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
