内容简介：

The reduced form evidence suggests large and significant effects of trade shocks on the migration flow and vice versa. The structural estimation (e.g., Tombe and Zhu 2019), however, concludes that these effects are quantitatively minor in the general equilibrium model. Motivated by the large concentration of wage shares in a few regions,  we conjecture the estimation bias/model misspecification associated with the regional market power is the source of this gap. In this paper, we consider a model that features oligopoly competition among regions and endogenous variable markdowns on regional wages. Using the model, we quantitatively investigate the interaction between the relaxation of the Hukou system, a regional-level restriction on migration, and trade liberalization, an industry-level reduction of trading frictions.

演讲人简介：

Wei Qiao received his Ph.D. in economics from the Pennsylvania State University. His research interests include Macroeconomics,  Monetary economics, and Financial economics. He has published research in the International Economic Review and the Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking.
