The 6th International Conference of China and Development Studies Kicks Off to a Strong Start 2023-06-12
SHANGHAI, June 10 - Antai College of Economics and Management (ACEM) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) successfully inaugurated the 6th International Conference of China and Development Studies. The event, jointly organized by the Shanghai Institute for National Economy (SHINE) and Department of Economics at ACEM, SJTU, welcomes a global cohort of scholars to explore China's developmental interplay with the world.
The conference, shifting from ‘China's Development’ to ‘China and Development’, encourages a wider lens on global development issues. Professor Lu Ming, Executive Dean of the China Development Research Institute, opened the ceremony expressing Antai College's ambition to establish a nationally-serving Chinese think tank leveraging Antai's multidisciplinary expertise.
Dean Chen Fangruo highlighted the evolution of the biennial conference into an annual event. Antai aims to address current economic challenges by fostering industry research through a blend of knowledge and action and crisscross development, optimizing service to China's development.
In the keynote lectures, Professor Bai Yan from the University of Rochester discussed her new quantitative model for understanding international financial cycles, while Professor Xing Yuqing from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies elaborated on China's pivotal role in Global Value Chains and implications of its restructuring.
The conference will resume tomorrow featuring a roundtable discussion on China's growth implications for the developing world. The conference's ongoing dialogue and research are anticipated to generate insights for future policy-making and academic exchanges.
