On December 22, 2021, the China Enterprise Development Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University released the "2021-2022 Top 100 Competitiveness List of Chinese Listed Companies". This year is the fifth time to release the list.

Based on the combination of academic research and industry feedback, the list aims to select the top 100 companies that will be the backbone of China's economic development in the future, promote the healthy development of the securities market, and improve the efficiency of resources allocation in the capital market.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Ma Hongman, Director of the Institute of Corporate Competitiveness, China Enterprise Development Institute, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Yu Mingyang, Dean of the China Enterprise Development Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Xia Lijun, Director of the Accounting Department of Antai College of Economics and Management, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, attended the conference.

The conference also invited several industry experts, including Gui Haoming, chief market expert of Shenyin & Wanguo Securities Research Institute, He Xiaobin, chief economist of Huaxin Securities, and Zhu Jiangli, deputy general manager of Haitong Securities Shanghai Branch. In addition, dozens of teachers and students of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and industry insiders witnessed the release of the list.

Professor Yu Mingyang, Dean of the China Enterprise Development Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, as the earliest advocate and leader of the top 100 list of listed companies' competitiveness, said that it is very meaningful for universities to do the research. The reason is that colleges and universities can conduct more comprehensive and in-depth research.

China Enterprise Development Research Institute will continue to promote the top 100 list, pay attention to high-quality companies, find excellent benchmarks for Chinese companies, and look for the inherent genes that determine the competitiveness of Chinese companies.

The competitiveness of an enterprise is the reason and value of the enterprise's existence. In addition, it's also the driving force for the development of the national economy, from high-speed development to high-quality development. On the other hand, the competition among enterprises is cruel. The research team will identify the competitiveness through some basic theories of academic research combined with data, and finally form a top 100 list. The results of the list have references for investors and encouragement for enterprises.

According to the list, most of the best companies have a market value between 20 billion and 200 billion yuan. From the perspective of regional distribution, mainly from Guangdong, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu. On the other hand, industry distribution mainly concentrates on electrical equipment, medical care, and liquor.

Mr. Gui Haoming suggested that when measuring the competitiveness of an enterprise, we should put the company in society to obtain a more comprehensive and in-depth vision. In addition, professor Xia Lijun said that the basic criteria for the top 100 list are the company's growth and stability.

"Looking at enterprises from a more comprehensive, diverse and detached perspective can provide a new perspective for the evaluation standards of Chinese listed companies, which is also the contribution that universities should make to the society." Professor Yu Mingyang concluded.
