Workshop Overview

SPACE (Spatial and Political Analysis of the Contemporary Economy) was established in 2024 to promote research and collaboration in spatial economics and related areas of applied microeconomics. Building on previous meetings, the Asian SPACE Workshop will bring together researchers from across the region at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). The program is also expected to include a special session on the use of AI in economic research.

Topics and Submission Materials

We invite submissions on spatial topics, including international trade, regional and urban economics, development, labor, and political economy. Priority will be given to research related to Asia. Applicants must submit a full paper, preliminary draft, or presentation slides in PDF format. More complete work may receive priority for an oral presentation.

Presentation Formats

Applicants may apply for an oral paper presentation, a poster presentation, or consideration for either format. The poster session is designed especially for PhD students and early-career researchers. We welcome researchers at all career stages and value diversity in assembling the program.

Participation and Costs

The applicant named in the form must be the intended presenter. Presenter substitutions will not be permitted after acceptance. Selected participants are expected to attend the full workshop on both days; any availability constraints should be stated in the application. Participants should expect to cover their own costs, including travel, accommodation, and meals.
