Call for Papers | The 9th ICCDS发布者:中国发展研究院 发布时间:2026-01-13The 9th International Conference of China and Development Studies June 5–6, 2026 We are pleased to announce the Call for Papers for the 9th Annual International Conference of China and Development Studies (ICCDS). Antai College of Economics and Management, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, will host the 9th ICCDS on June 5–6, 2026, in Shanghai. The Organizing Committee invites researchers from home and abroad to submit and present their research papers at the conference. We will hold the "China Development Summit Forum" during the conference and invite senior scholars to discuss cutting-edge policy issues. China is currently undergoing its own transition amid global structural change. On the one hand, it is shifting away from a manufacturing-export- and investment-driven economy toward a post-industrial, consumption-oriented economy. On the other hand, the rapid transformation in production and consumption styles driven by emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, as well as the rise of China, is dramatically reshaping the global economy. In this process of dual economic transition, how should China rebalance its economy through local government policies and central government coordination? Specifically, how should China rebalance exports and domestic consumption? How should China adapt this rebalancing process to the new technologies and lifestyle, and leverage innovation to advance economic rebalancing? In face of the trade surplus mainly driven by manufacturing exports, how can China rebalance its composition of exports of both manufacturing and service goods, and enhance its role in the global economy through both exports and imports? Can the rebalancing of China contribute to the global rebalancing? Topics of papers submitted to the 9th ICCDS may include but are not limited to the theme of Rebalancing the Economy in the Transition, and priority will be given to research works that respond to important issues concerning the Chinese economy and the global economy. Researchers who would like to present their work or organize a session at the conference are invited to submit their papers by email to ishine@sjtu.edu.cn by March 15, 2026. Please indicate "Paper Submission to ICCDS" in the subject line. Notification of paper acceptance will be announced by email to authors before April 1, 2026. There is no registration fee, and presenters are expected to cover their own travel costs and hotel accommodations, except for invited speakers from outside Shanghai. Should you wish to organize a panel session on any of these conference topics, please get in touch with the organizing committee and feel free to present your suggestions to them. A proposal for an organized session with a specific topic and three to four papers is also welcome. The ICCDS is an international platform organized by the Shanghai Institute for National Economy (SHINE) and the Department of Economics of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. It welcomes economists to exchange their cutting-edge China and Development Studies research. It aims to convoke outstanding scholars to study China's development and its influence on the world and to enrich the knowledge of economics through theoretical and empirical research on the challenges facing the Chinese economy. It is our honor to have had the following distinguished keynote speakers for the past conferences: Mark Rosensweig (Yale University) Wing-Thye Woo (UC Davis) Yang Yao (Peking University) Mathew Kahn (UCLA) Richard Freeman (Harvard University and NBER) Scott Rozelle (Stanford University) Guanghua Wan (Fudan University) Mary Lovely (Syracuse University) Li'An Zhou (Peking University) Diego Restuccia (University of Toronto) Shi Li (Zhejiang University) Junsen Zhang (Zhejiang University) Vernon Henderson (London School of Economics and Political Science) Jesús Fernández-Villaverde (University of Pennsylvania) Yan Bai (University of Rochester) Yuqing Xing (The National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies) Daniel Yi Xu (Duke University) Fernando Parro (University of Rochester) Dirk Krueger (University of Pennsylvania) David Lagakos (Boston University) The 9th ICCDS Organizing Committee January 1, 2026 |
