A Brief History
Founded in 1918, the School of Management, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, previously known as Railway Management Department is one of the earliest business schools in China. In 1984, the School of Management was reestablished with the approval from the Ministry of Education. In 1996, Aetna International Inc. entered into cooperation with SJTU to develop the school of management. In 2000, the School of Management was officially named as Antai School of Management. In March, 2006, ASOM Officially was renamed as Antai College of Economics and Management with the separate establishment of School of Management and School of Economics.
Departments and Institutes
School of Management consists of seven departments, ie Department of Marketing, Department of Operation Management, Department of Organization Management, Department of Management Science, Department of Management Information System, Department of Accounting, Department of Exposition and Tourism Management and over twenty research institutes (center). At present, the school offers two post-doctoral programs (ie. one in Management Science and Engineering, the other in Business Administration), two Ph.D programs of First Class Disciplines (ie. Ph.D program in Management Science and Engineering and in Business Administration), eight Master Programs and seven undergraduate programs. A complete cultivation system of qualified personnel is formed including post-doctoral, Ph.D, master and undergraduate programs. Among them, the discipline of Management Science and Engineering was appraised as the National Key Discipline in 2002, the one and only National Key Discipline in the category of management subjects in Shanghai. In 2003, in the Program Ranking organized by the Ministry of Education, our program in Business Administration ranked No.2.
Faculty and Students
Currently, the school prides itself on its distinguished, diverse faculty, comprising 33 professors (including 26 doctoral supervisors), 45 associate professors. The school boasts of 739 undergraduates, 285 master students, 489 Ph.D candidates and 20 post-doctorates and over 100 international students.
International Cooperation
The School of Management has built an extensive cooperative relationship with over 50 business schools in renowned universities overseas, including Harvard University (USA), Yale University (USA), Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania (USA), University of South California (USA), University of Michigan (USA), University of Washington (USA), University of British Colombia (Canada), School of Business of University of Texas at Austin (USA), and Euromed Marseilles Ecole de Management (France). Since 1997, with the international aid programs, the school has sent over 100 (person/time) promising middle-aged and young professors to Europe and America to further their study. Dozens of exchange students are sent abroad each year and scores of foreign teachers are engaged in on-campus teaching, contributing to its success in terms of globalized educational efforts, receiving credits both in China and abroad.
Thanks to about 100 years’ unswerving efforts, devoted to the practice and probing of the education internationalized reform, the School has achieved leapfrog development in the teaching, scientific research, discipline building and management innovation. Moreover, the School has enjoyed high academic reputation and social influence in China and the world.
