演讲内容简介:

Analysis of economics effects of demand-side shocks and tax incidence is often convoluted in two-sided markets, where demand systems are intricate due to the presence of cross-group network externalities. Based on standard two-side market theory, we deliver in this paper the first complete characterization of the effects of demand shocks on market outcomes, welfare, and the business model of platforms in media markets under monopoly and imperfect competition. Using a comprehensive data-set on eight major genres of U.S. consumer magazines for a decade, we present a series of stylized facts and empirical results that are largely consistent with our theoretical findings.

演讲人简介:

Dr. Shi, Ce (Matthew) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He got his PhD at the University of Virginia in 2016. He conducts empirical research on consumer choice and firm behavior in different markets, using new data and structural econometric models. His research interests include Empirical Industrial Organization, Industrial Organization Theory, Applied Microeconomics, and Media Economics.
