Office of Alumni and External Relations    2019-10-15

Recently, ACEM received an official notice from European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) that, after the internal review and voting by the EQUIS Awarding Body on Oct. 1, 2019, ACEM of SJTU had officially passed the five-year EQUIS reaccreditation of the highest standard.

On July 9-11, 2019, a EQUIS accreditation panel consisting of Prof. Peter Little, former Vice President of Queensland University of Technology, Prof. Sofia Salgado-Pinto, Dean of Catolica Porto Business School, Catholic University of Portugal, Prof. Edward J. Snape, Dean of HKBU Business School, and Ms. Donatella De Vita, Global Director of Training Department, Pirelli Tyre, visited our school and conducted a full-scale on-site review of ACEM, SJTU for reaccreditation. During the three-day on-site assessment, the panel had 15 meetings with university and college leaders, members of ACEM Advisory Committee, employers, alumni, representatives of teachers and students, and main leaders of various programs and functional departments of ACEM, focusing on the ten areas, namely ACEM’s development strategy and goals, teaching programs, student development, faculty, academic research, executive training, resource management, level of internationalization, ethics, social responsibility and sustainability, and corporate relations. At the same time, the panel reviewed in detail the accreditation materials presented by ACEM.

After a comprehensive assessment, the panel highly praised the achievements of the college over the past five years in its EQUIS peer review report submitted officially. The panel stated that ACEM is a first-class business school in the Asia-Pacific region, with a clear strategic goal, excellent faculty and students, a mature curriculum system and rich corporate relationships, while its international competitiveness and influence are significantly enhancing. The panel also expressed great appreciation and support to a series of reforms carried out by Dean Chen Fangruo, which aimed to establish longitudinal research with industries as the main line and on the basis of horizontal research with disciplines as the main line. As part of a bold and far-sighted strategic plan, this new structure has broken the barrier between sectors, disciplines, departments and industries.

ACEM has been always pursuing the leading standards of world-class business schools and improving its comprehensive strength constantly. The success in passing the five-year EQUIS reaccreditation is testament to ACEM’s achievements in recent years and will also become an unremitting driving force for the college to pursue the world’s outstanding business school education in the future.

EQUIS – European Quality Improvement System – is an international quality accreditation system of EFMD for business schools and one of the two most authoritative assessment systems in the world for management education. ACEM obtained its first EQUIS accreditation in 2008 and the five-year EQUIS accreditation of the highest standard in 2014.
